Having visitors in the house can be a tricky affair. Whist you may have rules that you follow religiously in your house, they may not follow them at all. In fact, you may find that you are afraid of stifling them so you let a lot of things go. The only problem is that your children may be watching you and will want you to accord them the same laxity when the visitors leave. So how do you go about it?
First of all, it would be good to let everyone know about the rules. If you only watch TV after all the chores are finished, let it be so. The visitors will adjust. Besides, it’s for a little while and they will be gone. If you want to make an exception, call a meeting and tell everyone why you need to make the exception and how long it will last. Make the visit as fun as possible and the visitors will not mind the rules you have. They may even borrow some of your rules when they see how effective they are.
